Summer 2015 on The Jersey Shore.

It’s been 2 weeks since I graduated from Lasell, and it feels like it could have been years since the ceremony. The thrill of graduating soon ended and my mindset changed from senior week to the reality of thinking of the future. For the short term, I applied for a summer volunteer program in New Jersey through AmeriCorps. I had always been interested in doing an AmeriCorps program and whenever I was on a service trip there would always be individuals serving at the sites. I loved the work we did in New Orleans, Charlotte, and New Jersey, rebuilding after disasters and building new construction, that I wanted to continue and follow my passion. Today was my first day as part of the United Way Rebuild NJ AmeriCorps program. The program assists homeowners and families whose homes have been affected by Hurricane Sandy. I was placed to serve in Ocean County, which is the county in NJ that was most affected. During the summer months, we will work on numerous homes doing demolition, reconstruction, and anything from drywalling to insulating. IMG_4191 copy.jpg
