A night out in Firenze.

In the Santa Maria Novella neighborhood, Trattoria Sostanza on Via de Porcellana, is one of the most popular Tuscan eateries in Florence. A local, hole-in-the-wall restaurant, with a different variety than most other Florentine joints. It has family-style dining and history literally covering their walls, it’s a cool spot you definitely want reservations for. DSC_0828

Each day they hand write their menu and change out items to ensure the dishes they are preparing are fresh.

By the end of the day… we were all wined-out, so we ordered a Coke Cola, and it came in a retro glass bottle.
Their simple pasta with meat sauce for a primi, cooked al dente.
Their famous buttered chicken in an egg, butter, and oil sauce, topped with lemon.
So juicy!
My favorite, the artichoke pie. Artichoke wrapped in layers of lightly fried egg. Delicious!
On the way home we made a pit stop at Gelateria Santa Trinita.
Walking home through the quiet streets of Florence.
Piazza Signorina lit up at night.

My most admired statue, “The Rape of the Sabine Woman.”

The bell tower of Palazzo Vecchio in Piazza Signorina.
Neptune Fountain in Piazza Signorina, one of Florence’s very few fountains.
And finally walking back to Santa Croce, belly incredibly full and ready for some sleep. Buona notte from Italy!
